About the event
9th May: Town Church is privileged to host a Liberation Day Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving in the presence of His Excellency Lieutenant General Sir Richard Cripwell KBE CB, and the Bailiff Sir Richard McMahon. The service commences following a parade of visiting military, Chelsea Pensioners, veterans, and uniformed youth organisations and will be livestreamed to the tea tent on the Albany Pier and to a screen at L’Eree.
The Dean of Guernsey, The Very Reverend Tim Barker will lead the service. This will be his final Liberation Day Service prior to his retirement.
The Very Reverend Tim Barker commented;
"Having been Dean of Guernsey since November 2015, this will be my eleventh Town Church service on Liberation Day. Each year has been memorable and fulfilling. It has been a great privilege to be involved deeply in the commemoration of one of the most significant days in Guernsey's history. The Liberation Day services, in the Town Church and in one of the country parishes, provide a space for islanders to come together at the start of the day to take a moment to remember our shared history, and recognise the sacrifices made by so many for our freedom today."
Some seating will be reserved. Unallocated seating will be on a first come, first served basis. This is a very popular service. All are welcome.
