The Revd Matthew Barrett

Matthew grew up in Salisbury where he was a chorister in the Cathedral. Music dominated much of his childhood before he decided to pursue a career in hospitality.

After Studying Hotel and Catering Management at Surrey University Matthew embarked on a career managing bars and restaurants, often alongside his wife Sally, in London and across the UK moving into Senior management roles.

From 2002 - 09 Sally and Matthew built up a successful recruitment business based in Leeds, recruiting managers nationwide for the hospitality industry.

In 2009 Matthew finally said yes to exploring a calling which had been developing for many years and in 2011 moved with his family to Oxford to train at Ripon College Cuddesdon and obtained a Bachelor of Theology degree from Oxford University.

Matthew was ordained in 2013 in Winchester Cathedral and moved to Guernsey to serve as Curate in the Vale Parish.

In 2016 Matthew was appointed as Rector of the Town Church and Vicar of St. John’s Church.

Matthew and Sally have two daughters; Hannah and Esme and say it is a real privilege to be ministering to such a wonderful community in a beautiful place.

Matthew has a passion for excellent coffee, baking bread and taking on new challenges for charity.
